Okay so our lovely hostess knows how ungirly I am..she and I have discussed my inability to love shopping of any sort and especially shoe shopping..but..there are some things I am girly about. I like my nails done (mine are like paper and tear so must keep acrylic on them) and my hair..not that it has to be perfect but I am particular about how it is cut and how I wear it (If I don't flat iron it then it's 80s hair band hair for me)...and I really only wore makeup a handful of times until the last year or so.

Now..here's my issue...I am clueless about putting shit on. I know what I 'want' it to look like but I have no clue how to get there!
For instance, I LOVE that old fashioned matte look..but, I hear that at my age that's not a good look ..uh..ok.
So then there are concealers? really? they conceal what? because they don't hide the red blotches and even with those and base and powder I never have to wear blush because you can still see the natural rosey color of my cheeks.

and eye liner? really? who designed this torture? I def need it to make my eyes look a bit bigger, but clearly I know not a damn thing about putting it on correctly.

My daughter says to go to a department store where they have makeup artists who will do my face and then show me which products to buy to get the look they do...but..is that the best way? I mean they are there to peddle their brand of makeup right? And with that in mind what are the best..say..three brands to use that do not cost an arm and a leg?

God, I hate being a girl.

Feoh...I didn't see this 'till now and I know in T-10 days your life is going to be super crazy but you'll see this...eventually.

Do you have a MAC store near you? Do your department stores have Lancome counters? Clinique counters? If so, start there. MAC would be my first choice but I know they aren't -everywhere- but they will all give free makeup applications. We even here, have some salons that do makeup/nails/ etc that will do makeup application for a small fee.

As for cost...well yeah. lol That's another matter.

MAC/Lancome/Clinique etc. will all be expensive. Now for me, I find the cost worth it as I use these products all the time and I find them worth it because I use FAR less so for me, the cost is comparable. For the non makeup users, I'd say drug store brand make up is just fine. My favorite drug store foundation is L'oreal true match foundation. It's definitely professional quality but at drug store prices. The key is, finding the right color that suits your skin tone. This, is another area where going to a MAC counter is beneficial. They will match their foundation to your skin tone. You don't need to buy it, but you can take a general idea of what the color was and if it was a warm or cool color, and match that to the L'oreal brand.

As for eye liner...don't use it. Buy a brow brush like this...

and you can use eyeshadow instead of actual liner.

This has likely gotten too long. LOL You know I've always said I'd move and be your personal shopper anytime!

We do have Lancome/Clinique..etc. MAC? uh I dunno but I'll make sure to look. We do have Sephora? I know my niece and a few others swear by them. They are expensive and they will do makeovers for free IF you buy 50$ worth of makeup -chokes- not sure I've spent fifty bucks on makeup in a two year period let alone all in one fell swoop. The spousal unit has told me to call them and go do it but the thought of spending that much dinero on makeup just makes me sweat!


oooooooo thanks on that eye liner tip! As you probably figured out..I don't own 'brushes' of any sort. I do have sponges for applying base but as for brushes if they don't come with the makeup I buy then I don't have them but I know..I know...brushes will be a must if I'm going to do this more girly me thing.

LOL, I only use makeup if I am meeting with a client, and even then, very little makeup. You have to be Rembrandt to put that stuff on right.

In my youth, I was into Goth, but that is a whole different ball of wax.

I've had Mary Kay, MAC and other all do me up and they make me look good, but no matter how many times I get shown, I can't recreate it on my own. I'm the same way with hair. That's why, for me, it's gathered up into a ponytail or a braid unless going with a client, and then it's a quick up-do with EZ Combs. Beyond that I'm as helpless with hair as I am with makeup.
